(SOLD) Beautiful & impressive Silver and Gold Gilt Wire Japanese Meiji Cloisonné Two-Panel Vase
(SOLD) This is a large fine silver wire two-panel vase from the Meiji Era (1868 - 1912). The vase is in oblong form with longer sides on the front and back sides. The shape is not quite totally rounded moon-flask form as it has broad shoulders and narrow base of the body, as well as a rounded profile. There is a short incurving neck and flared mouth tapering body sown to a flared out foot. The vase is copper with brass mounts silver rims and a base plate and interior enamel in a matte dark blue color.
The panel designs are naturalistic scenes rendered in silver wire. One side has a group of flowering plants including several tall bushes of different colored hollyhocks, thistle, and pale blue chrysanthemums. A highly detailed butterfly is attending one of the red-orange hollyhock flowers. The other panel has large orange and white chrysanthemum and other unknown flowers, one with pale mauve flowers, and then large blue and white lilies. The areas around the panels are filled with many detailed abstract complex forms with brown and pale red colors and the designs are rendered with gold-gilt wire. There are complex geometric borders at the neck and at the base.
