(SOLD) Amazing Unique Small Fine Silver Wire Meiji Cloisonne Three-Panel Vase
(SOLD) A fine and beautifully shaped silver wire vase from the Meiji Era (1868 - 1912) in round form with a short, narrow incurving neck and flared mouth with wide shoulders tapering down sharply to a flared-out narrow foot. The vase is copper with brass mounts including, rims, throat plate, and base plate.
The vase design has with three panels around the sides. One panel depicts floral bouquet with chrysanthemums, gentian and other colorful flowers. Another panel has a scene with a view of a stream from the drooping branches of a blooming cherry tree with Japanese iris growing on the bank. The third panel shows shorebirds flying over roiling ocean waves. The areas around the panels are the unique part. around the panels are elating figures that appear to be part plant-like and part bird-like. The next-to-last photo is a close-up of one of these figures with a bird head and neck going out of a body made of abstract floral motifs and having a tail with spreading white flowers. Around the base of the neck, on the shoulder are three small curvilineal cartouches each with a stylized butterfly facing inwards. The butterfly wings are made of three different thicknesses of silver wire - from the outlines to the finer veins on the wings. The panels are bordered with two very thick pieces of silver wire.
The vase is 5” tall. Unsigned . The vase is in excellent condition with a very small shallow flake area around a part of the design (seen in photo 11). Please email us with any questions you may have.
