(SOLD) Extra Fine Silver Wire Meiji Cloisonné Vase w/ 19 Birds w/ Rounded Silver Insets
(SOLD) A very fine silver wire antique Japanese Meiji cloisonne vase having a garden scene awith 19 birds hiding in the bushes. The vase is in oblong form with a longer sides on the front and back and narrower sides. The vase has a slightly elongated neck with rectangular mouth. The board shoulders taper down to a flared out rectangular foot.
The design depicts a lush, dense garden scene with many colorful leaves and flowers. Among the flowers seen are Japanese iris in white, blue, and purple (with every vein on each petal delineated with fine silver wire), red, purple and white chrysanthemum, yellow and peach colored lilies,, purple gentian, and morning glories. The scene also includes the design element often seen in pieces from Yokohama with dense accumulations of a specialized wire technique cutting small sections of wirer sea flattening them and inserting them on the vase prior to enameling. Among the flowering bushes many birds are finding habitat. We have so far counted 19 birds of various species in the bushes, but some are hard to find.
The vase is 7” tall. Unsigned. On the rear of the neck is a tiny nick with a short stress line that is only on the back and does not extend around to the front. Otherwise, the vase is in perfect condition. The price for this piece is adjusted, accordingly. Please contact us with any questions.
