Fine Antique Silver Wire Japanese Meiji Cloisonne Vase with Fierce Dragon on Midnight Blue

This is a very fine silver wire vase from the Meiji Era (1868 - 1912) in round form with baluster shape incurving neck and flared mouth with shoulders tapering down and out and then sharply back into a narrow base and flared out foot The vase is copper with brass mounts including, rims, throat plate, and base plate.

The vase design depicts a fierce dragon swirling around on on a highly polished deep midnight-blue background. The dragon has a gray body with silvery-white underbelly with a wrinkled white body. The dragon also has turquoise colored whiskers, red-orange flames, peach-colored ears, green horns and piercing yellow eyes. Note the detailed wiring on the dragons face, neck and head, and especially the whole way on the body where there are hundreds of tiny pieces of wire put down by hand. Thicker wire is used on the head to define the outline the head and horns.

The vase is 10” tall. Unsigned. The vase is in excellent condition. Stand not included. Please email us with any questions you may have.
