This is a stunning covered jar with lid and matching finial done in round form and rating on tripod brass feet.

The design is typical of Namikawa Sosouke and/or The Tokyo wireless school. The design depicts a naturalistic scene with three green birds on the pendulous branch of a tree in Fall colors with bright orange and red leaves against pale blue green background shading subtly from top to bottom. Silver wire on the tree, leaves and birds is used sparingly for reinforcement purposes and the outlines are in thick black enamel. The finial has abstract patterns in oranges and yellows against a pale blue green ground. The mouth of the jar and the edge of the lid have repeating black cloisonné rondels. There is a large circle on the base with abstract vines in light blue, stylized chrysanthemum flowers in red and a small circular emblem in the middle. The ground is a beautiful dark red-brown that appears to be translucent. There are rows of black enameled rondels around the point of attachments for the three brass feet.

The jar is about 6 1/4” tall. Unsigned but the piece I can be attributed to Namikawa Sosouke or the Shippo Kaisha. Excellent condition with only a tiny nick near to the bottom, below the birds (see photo). Please contact us with questions or more photos
