Majestic Fine Gold or Gold-Gilt Wire Japanese Meiji Cloisonné 4-Panel vase

$1,399.99

This is an impressive large Meiji cloisonné vase that is four sided with rounded, short neck. The corners of the four sides are rounded and the shape of the feet are rounded. The vase is made of copper with a mottled enamel base and gold-gilt rims and gold washed throat plate.

The design consists of four naturalistic scenes of various birds and insects in landscapes. One panel has red-topped Manchurian cranes in flight and descending to a wetlands area below. The wetland has various snags and flowers as well as several large bundles of rocks, apparently lashed together to provide small jetties (?). Another panel has large colorful chrysanthemums with butterflies. There is another panel with more Manchurian cranes in flight and a couple already in a wetlands area and wading amidst skags and flowering lotus plants. The last panel has several ground birds with grasses and morning glories and gentian flowers. The background surrounding all of the panel and around the shoulders and neck are leaves in various colors connected by swirling vies and what appears to be Paulownia flowers. At the corners between the panels, at the shoulders are small red cartouches with stylized dragons.

The vase is almost 13” tall. Unsigned. Excellent condition. Please email us with any questions.
