Extremely Rare Silver Wire Japanese Meiji Cloisonne Vase in Moon Flask Shape.
This is a very beautiful and fine silver wire two-panel Moon Flask vase from the Meiji Era (1868 - 1912). with rare, unusual shape The vase is in compressed oblong form with longer sides on the front and back sides. The long sides are flat and circular except for the complex shape with two dog-bites out of the circle. the moon shape fits on a short rectangular base with a matching shaped neck and mouth. The vase is made of copper with enamel decorations and blue reinforcing enamels on the inside and underside
One side has a depiction of a fierce dragon flying on an orange background with an arabesque leafy border. The other side has a phoenix bird flying on an absolute white background. There is a bold red-brown and black geometric border on the white panel with pale green leafy embellishments. The sides have random designs pf birds and flowers on red-brown backgrounds and the incurving ares have contrasting panels - one with a dragon with red flames on a black background with a small aventurine/goldstone border and the other with abstract forms against black and with the same aventurine border. The neck and foot rectangles each have 4 small panels.
