*(SOLD) Rare Delicate Jewel, A Fine Tsuiki Jippo Japanese Silver Wire Cloisonné Vase by Ota
(SOLD) This is an amazing vase done with much hand labor in the Tsuiki Jippo technic starting with a silver vase shaped into a teardrop with a rounded bulbous body slopping up to the round, long neck and flared mouth, engraving designs into the vase, affixing standard cloisonne wires to make the outlines of other designs (Japanese iris plants,) further engraving vein designs onto the iris petals and leaves, and then applying translucent enamels to both fill the wires with bright colors and then to slightly color the background with a blue hue that tapers to the bare silver substrate towards the bottom of the vase.
The design of the hand engraving on the vase is of a heron (see phot # 8) sitting on the curving truck of a willow tree. The willow has a lone branch reaching up to the top (see photo # 6) and then the branch extends down with willow leaves draped across the shoulders and down the body on the rear and the right side. On the left side are engraving of leaves and flowers of wetland plants. The highly colored areas depict the Japanese iris flowers with green lance shaped leaves and big purple and peach colored flower petals. The background outside of the designs is further decorated with a pressed-in fish roe patterns of dimpled dots.
The vase is 7” tall. Signed to the base with the beautifully hand engraved 3-Kanji character of Ota Jinnoei. Excellent condition with only one dark dot on the front of the neck. Please contact us with any questions and thank you for looking!
