Fine Standard Opaque Cloisonne with Silver Wire and Translucent Hand-Chased Translucent Enamel Vase by Gonda
A fine antique silver wire vase from the Meiji era done in the partial-ginbari technique. The vase is in hexagonal form with rounded edges to the six sides and a round mouth and round foot. The neck is short, incurving, and flares out to a wider mouth. The body tapers down to a narrow base and a flared-out foot. The vase is copper based with brass mounts and bottom.
The design consists of randomly placed fan shaped cartouches which are outlined in silver wire. The cartouches have a thick layer fo sterling silver foil fitted in with various naturalistic designs of floral scenes and one with a dragon. The designs are hand-incised with the details of the flowers and dragon and then translucent enamels are applied over the design. The perimeter of the fans are filled with opaque light green wireless enamel.
