Fine Silver Wire Japanese Meiji Cloisonné Vase Signed "Hayashi"

$699.99

A very rare and fine silver wire Japanese cloisonne Meiji era vase with body in square form, with rounded corners, and with round mouth and foot. The vase has a beautiful shape with short, narrow incurving neck and broad shoulders tapering down to a narrow base.

The design depicts a classic naturalistic scene with a green wild bird perched in the branches of a blooming cherry tree with chrysanthemum and narcissus flowers growing at the base of the tree. The reverse has a design of narcissus and a smaller yellow flower growing on a taller plant. The background is a highly polished wireless shining black or very dark midnight blue. T

The vase is 5” tall. Signed to the base with an impressed mark that is described by Mr. Gary Yoshino (on Page 176 of Japanese Cloisonne Enamels”) as “Hayashi.” Mr. Yoshino goes on to inform that this mark appears to be an early kanji character for Hayashi and that it may have been a precursor to the familiar form of the kanji form for Hayashi. Other pieces we have studied with this mark appear to be less detailed but more artistic in terms of freer flowing compositions than classic Hayashi Kodenji pieces. However, the subject vase has good detail and consistent with the design formalities of Golden Age pieces. Excellent condition with no damages. Stand is not included.
